With the assistance of a neutral professional, the parents can work together to resolve their visitation and access issues in a free and non-adversarial way. The goal of mediation is to establish an Access and Visitation Agreement outlining time for each parent with their children.
1. To enhance the parental relationships between non-custodial parents and their children.
2. To develop a Visitation and Access Agreement resolving child custody issues such as time-share, holidays, transportation and vacation.
3. To empower parents in the decision-making regarding when they each see their children.
4. Parents can resolve their child custody issues in a non-adversarial way that is much less time-consuming and free.
5. To increase stability in the lives of children.
Access and Visitation Mediation services are free of charge. The mediation is funded by the Access and Visitation Grant through the Department of Health and Human Services.
1. Have an open child support case with the District Attorney’s office.
2. No prior Court order for custody.
Through mediation, the children benefit from having a relationship with both parents. The custodial parent can gain a viable support system and the non-custodial parent has a greater opportunity for involvement with the children.
