Deputy Chief Thomas Touchstone is a Las Vegas native who was hired on with the Clark County Fire Department as a firefighter in September of 1996. He promoted through the ranks of engineer ('99), captain ('06), battalion chief ('14) and deputy fire chief ('19). He is currently the Deputy Chief of Operations.
Chief Touchstone has contributed to the organization and its employees in various capacities throughout his career. Most notably, he served as the Vice-President of Clark County Firefighters, IAFF Local 1908 from 2001-2013. During his tenure with Local 1908, he focused his efforts on grievances, discipline, worker's compensation, arbitrations and legal proceedings, and negotiations. He also has a passion for training and has supervised the training of CCFD members and five recruit academies as both a fire captain and battalion chief in the Training Division. He served as a fire captain at Station 18, which at the time was the busiest firehouse in the nation and serves the Las Vegas Strip, McCarran Airport, UNLV, and various apartment complexes and residential neighborhoods in what may be the most diverse first-due area in the nation. Chief Touchstone also worked on the technical rescue team from 2001 through 2006 under the supervision of Fire Chief John Steinbeck (then Captain Steinbeck). Chief Touchstone recently earned a bachelor's degree in Public and Fire Administration from Colorado State University.
Growing up in Southern Nevada, Chief Touchstone learned to love hiking, hunting, fishing, camping, mountain biking and boating in Nevada's great outdoors. He tries to share his love for outdoor recreation whenever possible with his wife, Kristal, his three children and their extended family and friends.
