“The Hidden Faces of Work: Behind Las Vegas' Non-Stop Economy”
Winchester Dondero Cultural Center and Nevada Humanities present The Hidden Faces of Work: Behind Las Vegas’ Non-Stop Economy, an exhibition featuring the photography, reflections, media, and creative work of students at the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Currently being shown at the Winchester Wall Gallery, this exhibit is curated by Julian Kilker, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Emerging Technologies, at the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies.
The Hidden Faces of Work: Behind Las Vegas’ Non-Stop Economy, will be available to view at the Winchester Wall Gallery, January 11 - February 22, 2025. A Closing Reception will be held Saturday, February 22, 1 - 3 pm. The exhibition and related activities are free and open to the public. Developed during a class project at the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, this exhibition explores the city’s invisible laborers and work, their physical burdens and emotional toll, and their experiences making sense of work and life. The exhibition—by student photographers who are themselves full-time workers and exploring their own career aspirations and evolving forms of visual media—creatively documents workers who contribute to this unique city, and reveal their often-hidden struggles, triumphs, and emotions. Featured artists: Julieta Aldrete, Kendall Banas, José Blea, Gizzell Contreras, Cynthia Covarrubias, Joshua Cruzado, Xayve Diaz, Jero Guerra, Joshua Harris, Lynnsie Holloway, Desiree Jacobo, Julian Kilker, Miriam Lachica, Chassidy Lynn, Angelo Masangkay, Adriana Orchard, Isabella Pupo, Julia Sidley, Nickolas Tanouye, Joy Villanueva, Brandon Wong, and a historic image from the Warren A. Bechtel Photographic Album, UNLV, University Libraries Special Collections and Archives.
The Hidden Faces of Work: Behind Las Vegas’ Non-Stop Economy is on display at the Winchester Wall Gallery, inside Winchester Dondero Cultural Center, open 9am - 8pm Tuesday - Saturday. And is located at 3130 McLeod Dr, Las Vegas. NV 89121.
