Stay Home for Nevada to Do Your Part to Stop the Spread of COVID-19

We aren’t being asked to storm the beaches of Normandy like our World War II generation. We are asked to stay home for Nevada to keep our residents safe, limit the spread of coronavirus, and help our community recover faster in the long run. Without a vaccine, trying to slow down the spread of the virus is the only way to minimize the number of people who get sick and save lives. The good news is most people who are contracting the illness recover. We all have a responsibility to heed the advice of health experts and scientists and take steps to protect ourselves and others: • Stay home as much as possible, even if you are young and healthy. • Put distance between yourself and others whether you feel sick or not. • Wash your hands often with warm, soapy water. • Cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze. • Disinfect frequently-touched items like your cell phone and door knobs • Don’t go to the hospital unless it’s an emergency – call your doctor first. Start March 12, Southern Nevadans Urged to Be Counted in 2020 U.S. Census

Thursday, March 12, is the first day people across the nation can participate in the 2020 U.S. Census online or by phone. Clark County is teaming up with multiple community partners to ask every household in Southern Nevada to participate in the census as part of a “Win the Census” campaign. The results of the census, taken every 10 years, help decide how $675 billion in federal tax funding is distributed to states and communities each year over the next decade. The funding helps pay for local schools, highway and transportation projects, Medicare, Medicaid and health care funding, emergency services and other needs. The population count also determines how many of the 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives get allocated to each of the 50 states. Clark County is hosting a community kickoff rally on March 12 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Government Center Amphitheater, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway in downtown Las Vegas to encourage residents to participate en masse in the census to ensure a complete count for Nevada. The kickoff is free and open to the public, and will feature music, food trucks, guest appearances.
