SUPER BOWL LVIII NFL “GREEN WEEK” EVENTS BEGIN JANUARY 20TH
“GREEN WEEK” FEATURES COMMUNITY GREENING PROJECTS, SALUTE TO SERVICE EVENT AND SUPER KIDS-SUPER SHARING
CLARK COUNTY, Nev. (Jan. 17, 2024) – The countdown to Super Bowl LVIII is on and numerous NFL Green events will take place leading up to the game. The events of Super Bowl “Green Week” will focus on tree plantings at Clark County parks, a Salute to Service event to honor active duty and retired military, and donating books, sports equipment, and school supplies to local kids that need them. The week will culminate with a day of service tree planting and passing of the “Golden Shovel” ceremony from Las Vegas to New Orleans.
These projects cap off a season of community greening initiatives implemented throughout Clark County by NFL Green in partnership with the Las Vegas Super Bowl LVIII Host Committee, Verizon, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, and the Las Vegas Raiders.

Saturday, Jan. 20 – Revitalization of the Las Vegas Indian Center Campus
Where: Las Vegas Indian Center, 2300 West Bonanza Road, Las Vegas, NV
Time: 10 a.m.
Who: NFL Green, Las Vegas Indian Center, Springs Preserve, Las Vegas Super Bowl LVIII Host Committee, Verizon, San Manuel Band of Mission Indians
Description: The campus of the Las Vegas Indian Center will be revitalized with the planting of native trees and plants, and the development and installation of a new drip irrigation system. The event will begin with traditional dance and a blessing led by Moapa Elder, Anthony Frank. The event will also include a land acknowledgement by Moapa Band of Paiutes Chairwoman Janet Myers. Community volunteers will join the Host Committee, Verizon volunteers, and Springs Preserve staff to implement the project.
Sunday, Jan. 21 – Neighborhood Tree Giveaway and Beautification Project
Where: Cesar Chavez Park, 1450 Radwick Drive, Las Vegas, NV
Time: 9 a.m.
Who: NFL Green, County Commissioner Tick Segerblom, Nevada Plants, Clark County’s Parks and Recreation and Real Property Management departments, the Las Vegas Super Bowl LVIII Host Committee, Verizon, San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, and the Las Vegas Raiders’ Raider Rusher and the Raiderettes.
Description: Tree giveaway to 50 pre-registered local households and the planting of 12 large trees at Cesar Chavez Park to increase shade and cooling and reduce the urban heat island effect. The urban heat island map developed by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is being used to identify the homes and neighborhoods most in need of trees and the cooling they provide.
Monday, Jan. 22 – Salute to Service Screening of 100 Yards of Hope
Where: Big Springs Theater at Springs Preserve, 333 South Valley View Blvd., Las Vegas, NV
Time: 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Who: NFL Green, Retired Navy SEAL Master Chief Steve Gonzalez, Marine Scientist Dalton Hesley, and an audience of local active duty and retired military.
Description: 100 Yards of Hope is the story of a partnership between the NFL, FORCE BLUE military special ops veterans, marine scientists, environmental agencies and Super Bowl Host Committees to restore a coral reef, and in the process, restore a sense of purpose and mission to highly skilled military veterans. This documentary has been shown to military audiences across the country and has inspired service members to consider ways to repurpose their skills outside of the military, continue to make a difference in the world and serve their country in new ways. The screening will be followed by an interactive panel discussion with NFL Green, FORCE BLUE and the marine scientist who led this unique project.
Tuesday, Jan. 23 – Silverado Ranch Park Tree Planting
Where: Silverado Ranch Park, 9855 Gilespie St., Las Vegas, NV
Time: 9 a.m.
Who: NFL Green, local youth, Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft, Clark County Silverado Ranch Community Center, Las Vegas Super Bowl LVIII Host Committee, Verizon, and the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians
Description: On January 23, trees will be planted at Silverado Ranch Park, home to baseball and softball leagues, dog parks, playgrounds, and the new Silverado Ranch Community Center. NFL Green’s mission to leave a “green legacy” is highly valued, especially across District A, whose buildings like Allegiant Stadium and the Silverado Ranch Community Center maximize day-lighting strategies, renewable energy sources, and more.
Thursday, Jan. 25 – Super Kids-Super Sharing
Where: Dr. William U. Pearson Community Center of Clark County Parks and Recreation, 1625 West Carey Avenue, North Las Vegas, NV
Time: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Ceremony at 10 a.m. Best photo opportunities from 9:30 to 11 a.m.)
Who: Local students, NFL Green, Clark County Commission Vice Chairman William McCurdy II, Las Vegas Raiders, Las Vegas Super Bowl LVIII Host Committee, K.O. Knudson Chorale, Legacy High School drumline, Clark County Parks and Recreation Department
Description: Super Kids-Super Sharing is implemented in every Super Bowl host community and is celebrating 25 years of helping local kids. For Super Bowl LVIII, dozens of local schools, Clark County and Henderson Parks and Recreation Centers and YMCA’s will be donating books, sports equipment, school supplies, and games to be shared with recipient schools and youth-focused organizations. Hundreds of students from donating schools will arrive at 9 a.m. to drop off and help sort items, then enjoy activities provided by the Las Vegas Raiders. Representatives from recipient schools and organizations will select the items they can use beginning at 1 p.m. Each recipient organization will receive a gift from Wilson Sporting Goods.
As part of Super Kids-Super Sharing, Verizon will present $5,000 grants to the Donna Street Community Center and Nevada HAND. The Donna Street Community Center is a community led non-profit organization that serves more than 500 local high-risk Black and Latinx youth. The mission of DSCC is to strengthen lives and communities by providing a social emotional, social science, humanities and performing arts-based learning program within a safe environment, and to unlock the creative potential and dreams of high-risk youth to shift the trajectory of their lives in a highly impactful way. Nevada HAND (Housing and Neighborhood Development) provides affordable housing and supportive services to more than 8,000 seniors and 2500 youth and their families. Along with affordable housing they provide life-changing and community enriching resident services, offering programs and resources that support the educational and extra-curricular interests of their resident children to ensure life-affirming opportunities.
Friday, Jan. 26 – Springs Preserve Shade Tree Lane
Where: Springs Preserve, 333 South Valley View Boulevard, Las Vegas, NV
Time: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Description: During this event, climate adapted shade trees will be planted to demonstrate the important role that trees play in reducing the urban heat island (UHI) effect. The tree species showcased in “Shade Tree Lane” were chosen for their ability to thrive in the extreme heat and dry conditions of the Mojave desert.
Saturday, Jan. 27 – City of Las Vegas Tree Planting at All American Park, United Way of Southern Nevada Day of Service and Passing of the Golden Shovel Ceremony
Where: All American Park, 1551 S. Buffalo Drive, Las Vegas, NV
Time: 10 a.m.
Who: NFL Green, Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tem Brian Knudsen, Las Vegas Super Bowl LVIII Host Committee, United Way of Southern Nevada, Clark County, City of Las Vegas Parks, Verizon, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, and the New Orleans Super Bowl Host Committee.
Description: Hundreds of United Way of Southern Nevada community volunteers will help plant nearly 100 climate adapted trees around sports fields at All American Park. The NFL will pass the ceremonial Golden Shovel from the Las Vegas Super Bowl LVIII Host Committee to the New Orleans Super Bowl Host Committee.
Super Bowl LVII Reforestation: NFL sustainability partner Verizon will plant 5,800 trees (100 trees for each Super Bowl) to restore forest devastated by wildfire in the Klamath Falls Basin. The Basin is a hub for biodiversity, serving as a top nesting area for bald eagles. The return of tree canopy will support a wide range of wildlife, provide a home for birds, and improve water quality in the Klamath River, helping to support one of the largest fish restoration projects in U.S. history.
Overall, NFL Green has supported 14 community greening projects throughout Clark County for Super Bowl LVIII. Impactful community projects create greenspace, enhance the natural environment, build community gardens and create shade, cooling and beautification in traditionally under-resourced neighborhoods.
