Applicants do not need to be ordained, have an affiliation with a church or religious organization or possess a valid notary appointment in order to obtain permission to perform marriages. Permission is obtained through the appropriate application process, paying the applicable fee(s) and completing the required training. See below for the two available options:
OPTION #1: 5-YEAR MARRIAGE OFFICIANT (UNLIMITED CEREMONIES)
You must:
- Live in Clark County, Nevada
- Apply with the Clark County Clerk
- Pass a required background check
- Attend an in-person training course
If approved, there is no limit on the number of ceremonies that can be performed within Nevada's borders for five (5) years from the date of issuance. OPTION #2: SINGLE CEREMONY (ONE SPECIFIC MARRIAGE ONLY)
You must:
- Apply in the county where the marriage will take place
- Take our online course to determine eligibility and obtain the application packet
- Provide a notarized character reference from the couple you are marrying (included in application)
Please do not apply any sooner than three (3) months in advance of the ceremony. However, your application must be received at least thirty (30) days prior to the ceremony to allow sufficient time for processing. Notarizations should not be older than ninety (90) days from the date the application is submitted. To start the course now and determine your eligibility, click the button below:
Once you score 100% on the course, a link will be provided to download the single ceremony application packet. After downloading the application, please be sure to continue to the next training slide and click the SUBMIT RESULTS button so that we have a record you have completed your training.
PERFORMING A MARRIAGE CEREMONY PRIOR TO OBTAINING AUTHORIZATION BY THE COUNTY CLERK IS ILLEGAL AND WILL RESULT IN A CIVIL PENALTY OF UP TO $1,500.
