Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft, NFL Green and community partners are hosting a Super Bowl “Green Week” tree planting event at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Silverado Ranch Park, 9855 Gilespie St., southeast of Silverado and Las Vegas boulevards.

Twelve trees are being planted near the new community center that is scheduled to open this spring at Silverado Ranch Park. In addition to Commissioner Naft and NFL Green, other partners include the Las Vegas Super Bowl LV III Host Committee, Nevada Plants, Verizon, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians and the Silverado Ranch Community Center.

“It’s a pleasure to be part of the NFL’s `Green Week’ initiative and its commitment to leaving a lasting legacy behind in our community after our first Super Bowl has been played,” said Commissioner Naft, whose Commission District A includes the park and Allegiant Stadium. “Across our community, Clark County is dedicated to new technologies that promote sustainability and an abundance of green space for the public to enjoy. Our Silverado Ranch Community Center will be a shining example of that when it opens this spring.”

Silverado Ranch Park is located in a fast-growing part of the Las Vegas Valley with a lot of new development and a lack of mature trees. Planting trees helps to increase shade and cooling and reduce urban heat island effects. Heat islands are urbanized areas that experience higher temperatures because buildings, roads and other structures absorb and re-emit the sun’s heat more than natural landscapes.

NFL Green is the National Football League’s sustainability project, which aims to reduce the environmental impact of events and leave a “green” legacy in host communities. These efforts include food recovery and distribution, recycling and solid waste management and donation of event and building materials, and community greening events and the Super Kids-Super Sharing event, a community initiative to support local youth.
