Commissioner Jones Unites Community at Peace Walk and Family Fun Festival to Address Neighborhood Challenges
More than 2,500 community members joined Commissioners Justin Jones, Tick Segerblom, and April Becker, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Spring Valley Area Command, and the CCSD Family Engagement Team on Saturday for the Super Saturday Family Fun Festival & Peace Walk.
The dual-event initiative began with a Peace Walk through six apartment complexes in the Pennwood/Arville area. The event concluded with a vibrant Family Fun Festival at Cashman Park.
“Today’s event was a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together as a community,” said Commissioner Justin Jones. “Every step we took during the Peace Walk and every smile we saw at the Family Fun Festival showed our shared commitment to creating a safer, brighter future for our children and families. This is more than just an event—it’s a movement toward unity, hope, and resilience. Together, we are proving that no challenge is too great when we stand side by side.”
The Peace Walk, which began at the 7-11 parking lot at 3033 S Arville St, featured county commissioners, LVMPD officers, community organizations, and volunteers distributing 500 backpacks, shelf-stable meals, and essential supplies to residents. Bike officers and patrol cars ensured safety throughout the route.
Following the Peace Walk, attendees gathered at Cashman Park for the Family Fun Festival. The Dream Center of Las Vegas distributed 20,000 pounds of food to families in need, while children enjoyed free rides, inflatable games, face painting, and balloon art throughout the park. Representatives from dozens of community organizations provided resources for families. The CCSD Book Bus remained busy throughout the afternoon, distributing more than 500 free books to enthusiastic young readers.
The Pennwood/Arville area has experienced increased gang activity affecting students at nearby schools, including Clark High School and Cashman Middle School. This event represents part of ongoing collaborative efforts between Commissioner Jones, Commissioner Tick Segerblom, Commissioner April Becker, LVMPD, and CCSD to address these challenges and foster unity in the community.
