"Evening with the Stars of Foster Care" Champions African American Foster Parent Recruitment

Clark County Family Services is hosting its annual "An Evening with the Stars of Foster Care," an event designed to celebrate the remarkable contributions of foster parents and inspire new ones. This year’s event will spotlight the urgent need for African American foster homes. The event will take place on Tuesday, April 22, at 6 p.m. at Pearson Recreation Center, located at 1625 W Carey Ave., North Las Vegas, NV 89032.

Research shows that children thrive when placed in culturally responsive environments, which is why there is a critical need for more African American foster parents to provide culturally relevant and supportive environments for children and teens in foster care. The evening will feature a panel of experienced African American foster parents, the "foster parent stars," who will share their personal journeys, offering honest insights into both the challenges overcome and the profound rewards experienced.

“It is imperative that we bridge the gap and ensure that children in foster care have access to homes that reflect their cultural heritage,” said Clark County Commissioner William McCurdy II. “Events like these are crucial in raising awareness and encouraging our community to answer the call to open our homes and our hearts to make a lasting impact on these children’s lives.”

“Providing a nurturing and culturally affirming environment is essential for children in foster care, though we understand it comes with real challenges," said Clark County Family Services Director Frank Prado. "While foster parenting requires patience, resilience, and dedication, our foster parents consistently share that the rewards—seeing a child heal, grow, and thrive in their care—are immeasurable. We are actively seeking individuals and families within the African American community who are ready to take on this challenging but deeply fulfilling role.”

Clark County Family Services representatives will be available to guide potential foster parents through the application process, discussing both the requirements and support systems available to help navigate common challenges, including assisting with on-site fingerprinting services for immediate registration.

While this event highlights the need for African American foster parents, it welcomes all caring individuals interested in fostering, regardless of background. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit clarkcountyfostercare.com.
